Sewing machine (in good working order and that you are familiar with)
Kit for class project
Start Quilting with Alex Anderson
Rotary cutter & cutting mat (it is a good idea to have a spare blade for the rotary cutter)
Thread
Ruler for rotary cutting (6 x 24 in or similar size), 6 ½” square
Basic sewing supplies (thread, seam ripper, pins, scissors, etc.)
Batting & backing for project but these can be purchased later
Outline (subject to revision)
First class
o Finish sewing 1 square dance block and 8 rail fence blocks
o Cut four 9 patch blocks
o Sew the rows for the nine patch blocks, press according to directions on page 25, do not sew rows into blocks
Second class
o One log cabin block
o Cut pieces for two double 9 patch blocks
o Sew one double 9 patch block
o Cut flying geese blocks
o Sew one flying geese block
o Cut one friendship star block
o Sew one friendship star block
o Sew 2 more log cabin blocks
o Sew 1 more double nine patch block
o Sew 3 more flying geese blocks
o Sew 2 more friendship star blocks
o Measure each block after you sew it to be sure it is 6.5 in. square
Third class
o Finish joining rows together
o Apply borders
o Make quilt sandwich and quilt
