cls: Intermediate & Beyond Sashiko Hand Stitching - Jul 28, 2026 10:00 am
Want to advance your skills at the ancient art of Japanese Sashiko hand stitching? Take your beginning Sashiko skills to the next level in this intermediate & Beyond class focused on expanding your knowledge of traditional Japanese hand-stitching techniques. This full day class is designed for experienced stitchers who want to deepen their creative and technical skills Building on foundational Sashiko methods, students will explore more complex patterns, learn how to stitch with precision and incorporate traditional motifs with modern applications. In this class, you’ll gain confidence in creating detailed geometric and free-form designs. This class is ideal for those who have taken a beginner Sashiko class or have experience with basic running stitches. We will be using traditional Sashiko panels from Orimono fabrics of Japan. Or a 5/8 yard of our fabrics off the bolt from Japan if you want to go Beyond. Students will also explore pattern adaptation, layout planning, and fabric selection to support intentional design. Through guided practice, demonstrations, and individualized feedback, students will develop confidence in executing intricate Sashiko patterns and integrating traditional techniques into contemporary textile work. Participants will work on a Sashiko sample that reflects both technical mastery and design possibilities and will integrate the art of Sashiko into “visible mending” and contemporary uses. Your class cost includes a panel or 5/8 yard of your Japanese fabric choice but you will need to purchase your own threads, needles and thimbles if you don't already have them. We have all the materials needed for this class in our store and you can use your 15% off class discount to purchase them. By the end of the course, you’ll leave with having great instruction in order to complete the panel or yardage yourself and the skills to continue your Sashiko journey with confidence. We will break for a light lunch which is included in your class cost. We have a number of beautiful indigo Sashiko fabrics and threads you can purchase for your individual custom projects at your class discount of 15%. Join us and unwind with a "Slow Stitching" method that will enhance your future hand stitching. If you have questions about this class please call and ask to speak to Warren.

cls: Pinyon Jay Pincushion: Wool Applique & Decorative Stitching - Aug 05, 2026 10:00 am
If you've been curious about the intricate, richly textured world of Sue Spargo's wool art — this is your invitation in. The Pinyon Jay Pincushion is a beautifully detailed small project that packs a big learning experience into one satisfying class. Working with hand-dyed wool and a variety of decorative embroidery stitches, students will move beyond the basics of wool applique and begin to explore the layered, expressive stitching style that makes Sue Spargo's work so distinctive and beloved. This class is ideal for students who have some familiarity with hand stitching or have tried basic wool applique, but it is also a wonderful entry point for adventurous beginners who are ready to be gently stretched. Join us for a wonderful class and you will be on your way to completing a masterpiece. Throughout the morning, your instructor will guide you through: ? Basting wool applique pieces in place ? Securing applique edges with hand stitching ? Introduction to decorative embroidery stitches used in Sue Spargo's style ? Working with coordinated hand-dyed wool included in the kit ? Techniques for achieving the rich, textured finish characteristic of fine wool art ? Assembly of your final pincushion product (gusset and non-gusset options) ? Ideal fillers for quality pincushions (we recommend crushed walnuts) The Pinyon Jay Pincushion is a project you'll be proud to display — and a skill set you'll return to again and again. Once you've experienced the satisfaction of decorative wool stitching, a whole world of Sue Spargo designs opens up to you. Your instructor, Callé Friesen, brings four decades of quilting and textile arts experience and a teaching style that balances clear technical instruction with warm encouragement. A light lunch will be included.

You must be a member of the Woodside Quilting QOV group for these sew in's. Our Group meets the 2nd Monday of the month. Please see our calender for the dates. We work on our own QOV quilts and we plan group QOV quilts and other events for these days. These special fun group projects are announced in our emails. We also offer a 15% discount on red, white, blue and patriotic fabrics when you sit and sew with us on QOV sew days. If you have any questions on our QOV Group, please feel free to call the shop.
