Woodside is excited to offer this beginner-friendly introduction to machine foundation paper piecing—perfect for anyone who has admired intricate quilt blocks and wondered, “How do they get those points so perfect?” In this workshop, students will learn the fundamentals of machine paper piecing while creating the charming Point Addis block, which can be finished as a decorative pillow. While the design appears complex, the process itself is surprisingly approachable—and incredibly satisfying to learn. Machine paper piecing is a powerful technique for quilters at any level, especially beginners, because it removes the guesswork from precision piecing. The printed foundation serves as your guide for every seam, helping you achieve crisp lines, sharp angles, and perfect points every time. Throughout the class, your instructor will guide you step-by-step through the entire process, including: ? Reading and understanding foundation paper piecing patterns ? Fabric selection and preparation (including working with fat quarters and precuts) ? Accurate fabric placement and stitching directly on the foundation ? Trimming, pressing, and building the block in sequence ? Finishing your completed Point Addie block ? Setting your finished block into a completed 20” x 20” decorative pillow sham. Your instructor, Callé Friesen, brings 4 decades of quilting experience and a warm, encouraging teaching style that makes new techniques feel accessible and enjoyable. Whether you are brand new to paper piecing or trying it for the first time after years of quilting, Callé will guide you through each step with clarity and support, ensuring a successful and confidence-building experience.
