We offer classes for everyone....beginners making their first quilt,those who want to learn new quilting techniques or those who just want to join friends in learning a fun project.
About our classes:
You can register on-line, in the store or call the store.Class and Retreat fees are due at the time you enroll and are not refundable unless you provide notice 2 weeks before the class begins (Except Judy Niemeyer & Claudia's Creations).
Books, patterns, fabrics and notions on the class supply list can be purchased at a 15% discount upon your paid enrollment, through the day of the class. (Some exceptions apply)
If we cancel a class due to low sign up, we will refund your class fee. We need to have at least 4 students to have a class. If it's winter time and we cancel a class due to bad weather we will call you prior to class and either refund or re-schedule the class for a later time.

This is a Private Laundry Basket Quilt Retreat for members only. You must belong to the Laundry Basket Quilt Group in order to sign up for these retreats. This will include a light lunch on Saturday and Sunday. You must sign up for this retreat on-line or in the store so we know how many to plan for. Something exciting we are adding for 2024. Even though we will continue to call this the "Laundry Basket Quilt Group" and work on Laundry Basket projects, we are adding two new designers to this group. 1. is Tone Finnanger creator of "Tilda" fabrics and patterns. and 2. Lori Holt creator and designer of her fabrics and patterns. You will receive 15% off Edyta and Lori Holt fabrics but NOT Tilda. Woodside Quilting brings Judy Niemeyer Retreats to Central Iowa and Des Moines! Are you ready for a week long 6 day retreat to either finish, start or work on your Judy Niemeyer projects. The cost for this week long 6 day retreat is $899 with our Certified instructor May Black. Monday Feb. 17th through Saturday Feb. 22nd at 4:30 pm. This retreat is from 9:30 am - 8:00 pm each day (except Sat.) and includes Lunch and dinner all week. This retreat also includes a welcome gift bag for each person of goodies worth up to $100. We will also be having fun at this retreat with some quilting trivia and prizes worth over $500. You will get 11 hours of quilting time each day. That is 66 hours for the week and 36 hours of instruction time from our Certified Instructor May Black. There is also a 15% discount for regular priced fabrics and notions for your projects. Once you find your pattern (s) that you would like to work on either call or email the shop and we will order the pattern for you so you can receive your class discount. Also it is recommended that you come early and choose your fabrics for your projects to utilize your retreat time unless you are wanting May Black to help in your fabric choices. If you are new to paper piecing you will first work with one of our Judy Niemeyer EMBASADORS prior to class to help you understand what preparation work and supplies are needed. We will have a Judy Niemeyer PREP class before the retreat to help you complete preparations prior to the class. So when you come to class you are prepared to work with May Black. We will reach out to you before class to plan this PREP class and materials needed with you. The Materials list for class is listed in the Details of the class. This class is designed for both the beginning and intermediate quilter. The class will teach you quilting terminology and techniques, the safe use of a rotary cutter and cutting fabric. For the beginner we will show you how to accurately piece seven different quilt blocks, and how to join blocks to create a quilt top. We will walk through how to assemble the quilt sandwich, options for quilting the top, and how to bind a quilt. By the time you complete all the lessons in this class, you will have a beautiful finished quilt completed. You will be able to choose your own fabrics for this project. For the Intermediate quilter you will have your choice of 2-3 different patterns* OR one of your choice approved by the instructor. You will also learn techniques and instruction for organizing and piecing your quilt top. We will discuss and review multiple techniques demonstrated for all of the patterns during class that everyone can learn from. Come to class prepared to cut out your fabrics and begin sewing the first day. This is a 5 part class with 3 hours in each session on Tuesdays during the day from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm staring Feb 25th, March 4th, March 18th, March 25th, April 1. Please stop in at least 1 week prior to class to pick out your fabrics. Fabric purchase for your project is required for class. You will receive 15% off supplies for you class. Whether you're in the middle of a small or large project or your wanting to start a new project. This Machine Embroidery Club is designed around YOU, YOUR projects and how we can help you achieve your Machine Embroidery Goals. The club meets the first Friday and Saturday of the month and is for ALL machine brands and is also more for the Intermediate Machine Embroidery user. We will explore techniques such as tiling projects, Quilting in the Hoop and much more. You will advance your learning & skills in no time! This will be an opportunity to try out new projects and more difficult embroidery techniques. This is a Hands on Club and embroidering during our Club Sew days! This is not just a lecture, so bring your Embroidery machine and lets start creating and having fun! There will be someone at the shop to help bring your machine in from your car if you need help. (When you bring your machine to the shop and you need help with your machine please lets us know) By joining our Machine Embroidery Club you also get LOTS of benefits. You will get 15% off your Isacord Embroidery thread, OESD stabilizers and patterns when purchasing them through Woodside. You will be the first to be able to pre-purchase new designs before they are released to the public. We will also have "Show and Tell" for what we are working on. Friday is work on your own but support is there if needed. The first 1/2 hour on Saturday will include a discussion on new designs, threads or stabilizers that have just been released as well as learning a new technique. We also provide a light lunch on Saturday. The Machine Embroidery Club Cost is just $75 for the year. This introductory course is designed for new quilters who are confident with basic stitching on their own sewing machine but have not yet completed their first quilt. Our class will include a series of five sessions; four sessions will occur here in our Woodside classroom, and one session will be a virtual Zoom meeting. Our class will feature the beginner-level Villa Rosa Quilt Pattern titled “Buckbee,” measuring 45 x 54. The beauty of this simple pattern is that it can look sleek and modern or elegantly sophisticated, depending on the fabric selected. You will choose your own fabrics for this quilt top. This course is designed to walk new quilters through every step of the quilting process so that when the 5-week course concludes, students will have a complete finished project ready to enjoy at home or present as a gift! This will be an opportunity to try out new projects and more difficult embroidery techniques. This is a Hands on Club and embroidering during our Club Sew days! This is not just a lecture, so bring your Embroidery machine and lets start creating and having fun! There will be someone at the shop to help bring your machine in from your car if you need help. (When you bring your machine to the shop and you need help with your machine please lets us know) By joining our Machine Embroidery Club you also get LOTS of benefits. We will be doing a mini version of "Trade Winds" for these 3 days that will involve many different hand sewing, knotting and embroidery techniques that you will learn nowhere else. We will also have exclusive hand dyed blue backgrounds for this project you will need to purchase. As well as the Trade Winds project book and the Creative Stitching book. There will not be a kit with the class but instead you will be able to select and purchase hand dyed wools to customize your project and make it unique.
